Inspire The Next Generation Of Scientists! - Facilitators (Montezuma)

Call for Facilitators

Want to give back to the community, gain leadership skills, practice professionalism, and gain mentoring experience to help build your self-efficacy in STEM? Then, this is the outreach event for you!


You’ll work as a team with the event organizers and other facilitators to lead a Science Day for Montezuma Elementary Dual Language classes.


Pre-event training by the event organizers and Explora staff will help prepare you for the event. Prior experience with science, courses, or teaching is not required.

Most of this event is behind the scenes and will be coordinated and scheduled as your team decides. For the day of the event, if you have classes, no problem. See “MORE DETAILS” below for how this can still be an event for you.




You will coordinate and communicate with the event organizers/lead facilitators leading up to the event. A training will be provided – date/time TBD. Yadéeh and Explora staff will be available for support as you need.


Montezuma Science Day:

8 AM – meet in the STEM Collaborative Classroom.

8:30 AM – set up at Montezuma

9 AM - 11 AM – Engage with students

11 AM – clean up at Montezuma

11:30 – 12:30 PM – Debrief, reflect, and lunch in the STEM collaborative Classroom




This event is in partnership with Explora and 12 Months of Math.


·         If you cannot attend the entire event, that is ok. Students can work in shifts if necessary. Please indicate in the Google Form ( which time frame you are able to assist on the day of the event. We will provide transportation in shifts, but students are welcome to use their own mode of transportation.

·         Montezuma Elementary is a Title 1 school on Indian School and Girard; This event is for the Dual Language classes (K-5) to see science demonstrations and participate in hands-on activities (each with an integrated Math component).

·         There will be five 15 minute stations.

·         We will have students to fill 2 roles:

o   Organizers - students to volunteer to design the day - including which activities and demonstrations to present and to help with recruiting volunteer facilitators for the day of. Support and training are provided.

o   This registration - Facilitators - students to help lead each of the activities/demonstrations

·         All UNM student participants will receive an “Ask Me About STEM” shirt.

·         As a thank you, all UNM student participants will be invited for a behind-the-scenes tour of Explora.
