Considering a Career in Medicine (FREE 6 days total)

Medicine is a stimulating, challenging and rewarding career and achieving it requires a lot of hard work and tremendous commitment.  Medical careers are also very different from the way they are commonly portrayed in popular culture.  Are you thinking of becoming a doctor but not positive it is right for you?  This mini-course might help.

In six sessions, Dr. James McKinnell will help you explore medicine as a profession through the use of selected readings with discussion and by introducing you to practicing professionals.  In addition, he will also share tips on developing a strong medical school application.

Dr. James McKinnel is a practicing pediatric oncologist, instructor of the Freshman Learning Communities course "So, You Want to be a Doctor?" and director of the new Office of Pre-Health Professions Student Development.

This event is free for UNM undergraduates. Prior coursework or medical experience is not necessary. This event is especially great for first- and second-year students who are interested in exploring a career in medicine.
